The Metropolitan Trial Court, Branch 19, Manila, has found ex-Bureau of Customs Special Agent Victor Barros guilty beyond reasonable doubt of five counts of violation of Section 7 of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (Republic Act No. 3019 ) and was fined P5,000.00 for each count. The conviction stemmed from Barros’ failure to declare personal properties in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) filed in 1996 to 1997 and from 2004 to 2006.
Ombudsman prosecutors presented documents proving that Barros failed to declare personal properties consisting of a Cherokee Pioneer V6, Mercedez Benz and a Kawasaki motorcycle in his SALN.
Section 7 of R.A. No. 3019 requires all civil servants to file on or before April 30 of each year, a true, detailed and sworn SALN which must include a statement of the amount and source of income.###
